In Wakayama Prefecture, we have implemented to make a rainfall observation facility and an information surveillance system from the Heisei 8 fiscal year. (the urgent enterprise of the making of information infrastructure).
A hundred and thirty-seven rainfall observation facilities and a surveillance system were completed at the end time of March, Heisei 12, and the real time rainfall condition can be monitored throughout Wakayama Prefecture.
A rainfall observation facility passes official approval of the Meteorological Agency, and it is utilized for the disaster prevention activities of the prefecture or cities, towns and villages, and also the rainfall information on the real time from rainfall observation sites is used for the forecast of a meteorological observatory. In this homepage, rainfall information is updated and opened for every 10minutes.

At the [--- Development of construction. Promotion Bureau] screen, the present rainfall of each rainfall observation facility is displayed according to a color, and the hourly rainfall and the continuous rainfall of each area can be known. |

- When present hourly rainfall is exceeding 20 mm, or continuous rainfall is exceeding 100 mm, it becomes the color of an observation office label yellow, in order to call the attention to an sediment-related disaster.
- An hourly rainfall is expressed with the height (mm) of collected rain in 1 hour.
- A continuous rainfall is the total rainfall which was integrated from the start (Hourly rainfall is more than 1 mm).
When a rain interval is less than 6 hours, it is regarded as the continuous rain and the total of rainfall is continued.
