Streams that posed the danger of debris flows is a torrent which has a hazard of occurrence of debris flow and possibility of damaging more than 5 houses or public facilities.
Torrents susceptible to debris flow are identified by the investigation of geomorphological and geological, condition, and the record of previous sediment-related disasters.
These techniques are based on the guideline for investigational techniques of streams that posed the danger of debris flows edited by the Ministry of Construction. In Wakayama prefecture the investigation for streams that posed the danger of debris flows was conducted on 2000. According to this investigation, there are 5,745 streams that posed the danger of debris flows.
The investigation is carried out in Japan every 5-10 years. We are also carrying out the investigation through aerial photograph based on the new investigational guideline.
