Geographical Summary of Wakayama Prefecture Wakayama is located in the southern part on the Kii Peninsula and the Kii Mountain Range runs through the center of the area. From north to south the prefecture is 105.6 km long, and from east to west, 93.9 km. The total area of Wakayama Prefecture is 4,725k‡u, The total length of Wakayama's coastline is 648 km with the southern tip of the prefecture at Shionomisaki in the Japan Current of the Pacific Ocean. The northern part of the prefecture has long periods of sunshine with little rainfall while the southern area receives large amounts of rain.
