Garbage
The garbage disposal system depends on local authorities. In general, you must separate burnables, cans and bottles, plastics, and bulky waste. You might need to use special bags (usually transparent garbage bags). You must take your trash out by the set time and put it in the proper place. For more details, call your local authority.
Gas
In most of Wakayama, they use propane gas. When you start to use it, you can call the number on the gas meter. A service person will visit your residence to open the main valve. You must be at home at that time.
Electricity
The Kansai Electric Power Co., Ltd. supplies power throughout the Kansai region. The voltage and frequency of the electricity supplied in western Japan is 100V AC/60Hz. (200V AC is also available). In eastern Japan (including Tokyo). the frequency is 50Hz. When you move into your new residence, you usually need to apply for electricity service. You can apply for it via a postcard or from the homepage.
