Alien registration
In general, foreigners, who stay in Japan for more than 90 days, must apply for alien registration. This is to make your living place and identity clear, with the exception of diplomats, foreigners must register with local authorities. When you change your registration information (address, etc.), you must update your registration.
Passport
(1) Loss of Passport
If you should lose your passport, you must first go to the nearest police station and get a "Certificate of Report of Lost Property. " You may then go to your country's Embassy/Consulate in Japan and follow the procedures for the re-issue of your passport. In completing the re-issue procedure, you will need the number printed on the Certificate of Report of Lost Property.
(2) Issuance of New Permit Stamp and Certificate of Eligibility
If your passport should expire or if you should lose your passport, you may need a new passport issued. In such cases, you must obtain the transcription of a new entry permit stamp and Certificate of Eligibility. The procedures are handled at the Immigration Office
